"Mountains are named by people" Father said "I am a person, and I name that mountain mount Parvana" .(pg.17-18) I picked that quote because it sounds cool and imaginative. I think that Parvana's father is creative.
And I have a question, what does it mean when " Peddlers hawked their goods and services."?(Pg. 40) Maybe it means that they only give their goods to certain people, and why would the Taliban make men grow beards?
" Afghans cover the earth like stars cover the sky"(pg.9 ch.1) I chose this quote because there are so many afghans in the world just like stars cover all of the sky. I couldn't find any other quotes. I have a question. Why do women and girls have to where burqas and chadors.
Its their culture to do that
And my other question is why can't women and girls go to school?
"Two Taliban soldiers grabbed Parvana's father. The 2 other soldiers began searching the apartment." I picked this quote because I think It's sad and the soldiers took him because he went to England to learn, why is he arrested for that? It doesn't make any sense.(PG. 31). "Parvana couldn't sleep. She could hear her Mother and Nooria tossing and turning as well. She imagined every single noise to be either Father or the Taliban coming back". I picked this one because if you are thinking about something really bad and you can't make it go away no matter what you do.
"The Taliban said we must stay inside, but that doesn't mean we have to live in filth".(PG.22) I picked this quote because it's almost as if I could hear Parvanas mother talking. Even though shes lost her job and living in terrible conditions she tries to make it as good as possible. "Photographs were illegal. Anyone of these people could turn Paravana and her mother to the militia."(PG.40) "I'm here for my husband!" She took out Father's photograph and held it fount of one of the guards." (PG.41) If photographs are illegal why didn't the guards turn her in? Whats militia?(PG.40)
They were going to Turin her into a boy."as a boy you'll be able to move in and out of the market, buy what you need, and no one will stop you." I liked this quote because, I thought it was weird that only boys or man do the shopping, because we now usually women shop a lot and mans don't shop a lot, and it is weird how women
Can't get outside without men's permission, its like a trapped world for the it would be uncomfortable, if I was them I would feel like a trapped mouse! If I was in that situation, I would freak out or maybe even panic, I can imagine why they had to turn Parvana into a boy, so that they can all live.
Forgot to add the page number, pg.63
"Bones, they were going to dig up bones. I'm not sure this is a good idea, Parvana said to Shauzia the next morning. She had her blanket and her father's writing with her. She hadn't told her mother about going bone-digging so she didn't how a reason to leave her usual work things behind." This made me think I was Parvana and was guilty with her, I can feel she was guilty, so it made me connect to when I had done something bad and I was kinda hiding from others so I liked this quote.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
