Social Studies: Today we watched some of the 'Living on One' documentary of three young adult men from New York City attempting to live in Guatemala on one dollar a day. They learned first hand how unclean water made them ill. Clean water ensures people stay healthy, which means they grow normally, and can go to school. On just one dollar a day, the men did not get the proper nutrition they needed, and they were constantly hungry. With help from a Guatemalan woman, they were able to decrease their hunger, but were essentially living on only corn - no fruit, protein, etc. We learned the difference between acute malnutrition and chronic malnutrition. Acute malnutrition is not enough food. Chronic malnutrition is not getting the right balance of vitamins and nutrients. Leave a comment: Are you finding this documentary interesting?
